PNP, JLP sign off on discussions ere Local Government Elections
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) have agreed to participate in political debates to be organized by the Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) ahead of the nation’s next Local Government Elections.
The joint decision was affirmed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday, November 4 at the office of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) in Kingston.
Signing for the parties was Dr. Horace Chang, General Secretary of the JLP, and Nekeisha Burrell, Deputy General Secretary of the PNP.
Noel daCosta, Chairman of the JDC, witnessed the signings.
Jamaica’s next Local Government Elections are due by the end of February 2022.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has said the elections will not be held during the 2021 calendar year, due to COVID-19 concerns.
The imminent Local Government Debates are to be the third staged ahead of Jamaica’s Local Government Elections. Previous debates in the series were held in 2012 and 2016.
