Why NIA and Advocates Network Demand House Speaker’s Resignation
The two influential watchdog groups insist that Tuesday’s events in Parliament, in connection with Dalrymple-Philibert, were unacceptable and should never have occurred. They argue that it is fundamentally undemocratic for the speaker to preside over the hearing concerning a report on her own conduct. This report, originating from the Integrity Commission (IC), has led the Director of Corruption Prosecution to recommend multiple charges against her, allegedly stemming from actions between 2015 and 2021.
Furthermore, the groups assert that the speaker’s decision to forward the report to the Ethics Committee of Parliament, a committee she chairs, is a grave error.
