The victim, identified as Raneel Haughton, known by the nickname ‘Rum Punch,’ met an untimely demise in the wake of this merciless assault. Haughton, a 72-year-old resident of Walkers Avenue, fell victim to the gunfire that erupted as he and a friend sought refuge in a car parked along the roadway. The echoes of multiple explosions pierced the silence of the night, signalling the beginning of a nightmare for the community.
Amid the chaos, Haughton sustained grievous gunshot wounds to his upper body and right arm, eventually collapsing under the weight of his injuries. As the panic spread, a group of armed assailants, wielding rifles and handguns, descended upon 44 Walkers Avenue. Their malevolent intentions became chillingly apparent as they doused several houses with gasoline, transforming them into infernos that illuminated the darkened landscape.
The crackling of flames and the acrid scent of smoke filled the air as the assailants ignited the fiery devastation. The occupants of the targeted houses were rudely awakened by the horrifying commotion, their homes now engulfed in an all-consuming blaze.
Faced with imminent danger, these individuals attempted to flee, only to be met with a barrage of gunfire from the attackers. Trapped between the flames and the raining bullets, one woman bore the brunt of this dual onslaught, suffering extensive burns that marred her body.
As quickly as they had arrived, the gunmen vanished into the shadows, leaving behind a scene of utter devastation and despair.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, summoning medical assistance for the injured and collecting evidence to piece together the unfolding tragedy.
The wounded, including those harmed during the initial attack, were rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where the life of one male victim was tragically cut short by the gunshot wounds he had sustained.
