selective in what we highlight and what we condemn. This is a small country and we know that
if you speak out about certain things you will certainly feel the backlash.

Let no one fool you about freedom of the press in Jamaica. While the government might not exert
direct influence over the press, influence can still be exerted in various covert ways.

NOT FREE AS WE THINK

If you make a negative comment about a company you might just notice that you end up getting less support from that entity. The same thing applies to the state and also to political parties.

No one will probably say openly that they will not support a media house or that they will support one over the other.

Lawyers have told me privately that they cannot comment on many things because they will end up paying for it dearly.

Now it is known that many entities and persons continue to keep parties which is against the Disaster and Risk Management Act and they seem to get away with it.

 

Recently we heard about a big party at a well-known entertainment spot in the West.

 

We are not fools and no one should be convinced that the event was top-secret. I understand that the event was promoted on the JTB’s website.

How long ago was it put up on the website and who reviews the schedule of events on the website?

 

NEGRIL POLICE WERE NOT AWARE?

From the videos that I saw, it seems to me that if the police officers in the area did not hear the party excitement then they are all suffering from a complete loss of hearing.

 

If the police were not aware of this major party bash coming up, then I would not be surprised that they would also have difficulty getting intelligence about criminal activities in the area.
