In a devastating turn of events, the identity of the victim in Sunday’s harrowing Fern Gully crash has
been disclosed by authorities. Suzette Thomas, a 49-year-old housekeeper from Wildman Street in Kingston, tragically lost her life in the incident.
The crash, involving a bus carrying multiple passengers, left a grim toll: 23 individuals sustained injuries,
with six of them currently hospitalized in critical condition. Among the injured were 16 children and seven
adults, highlighting the severity of the accident.
According to reports from the Ocho Rios police, the tragedy unfolded around 11:20 a.m. when a Nissan Caravan
motor bus, en route to St. Mary, experienced a catastrophic tyre blowout. The driver struggled to maintain
control, ultimately leading to a collision with a stone wall and a devastating overturning of the vehicle.
The swift response of emergency services, including the police and fire brigade, along with assistance from fellow motorists, facilitated the urgent transportation of the injured to the hospital. Despite these efforts, Suzette Thomas succumbed to her injuries, marking a sombre loss in the community.
