On Thursday in Linstead, two days after the state of emergency (SOE) termination in St. Catherine, gunmen killed a couple and wounded a cab driver.

The deceased include prominent party promoter Salieka Salkey, also known as “Sally,” 23, of Orangefield and Commodore, both in Linstead, St. Catherine, and vendor Leon English, also known as “Furry,” 41, of Commodore.

According to police sources, English and Salkey was attacked by gunmen who opened fire as they were unloading belongings from a cab at a nearby residence at 1:45 in the morning.

The thugs shot the couple as well as the cab driver.

Despite being hurt, the cab driver managed to depart the scene.

The police were called when the gunfire stopped, and the couple was subsequently discovered lying in a pool of blood.

At the hospital, they were pronounced dead.

Since then, Salkey has received condolences on the social networking site Facebook.

“I pray for my sister, but most of all for my little grandniece, your brother and sisters to… encourage and support one another,” her aunt said in a letter.

“@Salieka Salkey, I wasn’t ready for this news. My niece spread your wings and soar. She remarked that her infectious laugh and broad grin will be missed.

Another female remarked: “No words come to mind. I still can’t believe it, darling child, rest in heavenly peace.”

another was shared “Just see how they shorten your life. You were left with one child without a mother once they were gone.”

Police are looking into the incident, but a motive for the double murder is yet unknown.
