Jamaica Braces for Tropical Wave: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Today

Jamaicans need to prepare for a weather event that promises a wet and stormy day ahead. According to the Meteorological Service’s latest forecast, a tropical wave just west of Jamaica will bring showers, thunderstorms, and windy conditions starting today and lasting through Friday.

In their 5 am update on Thursday, June 27, 2024, the Meteorological Service reported that the tropical wave was moving away from the island. Despite this, residents should expect persistent cloudy skies with intermittent showers and thunderstorms throughout the morning. A gradual improvement in weather is anticipated later in the day. However, windy conditions will continue, influenced by a low-level jet stream across the island.

24-Hour Forecast

  • This Morning: Showers and isolated thunderstorms across most parishes, otherwise mostly cloudy. Windy.
  • This Afternoon/Evening:** Isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly in southern and northwestern parishes, cloudy elsewhere. Windy.
  • Tonight:** Lingering showers mainly in western parishes, becoming partly cloudy. Windy along the south coast.

3-Day Forecast (Starting Friday)

Friday:

Partly cloudy morning. Afternoon and evening showers with isolated thunder storms, especially in hilly and western areas. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Windy along the south coast.

Saturday and Sunday:

Widely scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, primarily in central and western parishes.

Other Current Regional Weather Features

Eastern Caribbean: Another tropical wave is approaching.

Eastern Tropical Atlantic: High chance of tropical cyclone development over the next seven days.
Gulf of Mexico: A weak high-pressure ridge is present.
Panama: An area of low pressure is noted.
