Threat to revoke sponsorship once a relative arrives in the US is pointless

Every year, thousands of people with green cards come to the US from the Caribbean, and many of them do so after meeting the requirements to become citizens.

Because some persons are unaware of their rights and obligations as holders of green cards and, eventually, US citizens, there are regrettably occasionally abuses.

Dual citizenship is recognized in the US. As a result, even after becoming a US citizen, you can maintain your Caribbean nationality and travel with both your US passport and the passport of your home region.

Children born in the US to Caribbean residents who live in the US are also citizens of the Caribbean, and their parents are eligible to apply for citizenship and passports on their behalf in their respective Caribbean nations.

US citizens are required to fill out an affidavit of support when they petition (often referred to as “file for”) relatives.

In actuality, it implies the US citizen is making a deal with the US government that the relative will be financially supported by the US citizen for five years after moving to the US.

Therefore, threatening to revoke the affidavit once the relative arrives in the United States is a hollow threat.

The mere threat by a US relative or a related of a green card holder petitioner to write to US immigration and request that the green card is withdrawn cannot cause a green card holder to lose their status.

This threat is frequently used by the US citizen relative petitioner or the green card holder relative petitioner in an effort to completely control the new green card holder’s affairs.

The decisions made by the US immigration authorities are not based on the whims of bad actors. If they believe a claim to be legitimate, they look into it and make a decision.

When entering the USA, a holder of a green card is not needed to stay at a certain place. The US immigration authorities must be notified of green card holders’ new permanent addresses within 10 days after the move, though.

There is even a form that can be filled out online and uploaded on the www.uscis.gov immigration website to make things simple.

Green card holders can travel internationally, but if they stay outside the country for more than a year, it is assumed that they have given up their status as lawful permanent residents, and they must prove it to the US immigration courts if they want to enter the country again.

It is crucial to obtain immigration documents that will permit simple re-entry if one must spend a significant amount of time outside the United States.

The criterion regarding travel is that a green card holder must have spent more time inside the USA than outside of it while seeking for citizenship.

If you spend a long time abroad, your application will be denied, and you’ll have to wait until you’ve accumulated the required amount of time in the USA before you can reapply.

To enter several governments and/or military installations in the USA, one must have a real, physical lawful permanent residency card.

This is true, especially for particular work kinds, thus it is always quite helpful to inquire in advance if entry into the facility requires confirmation of legal status.

After a green card holder moves past the initial application step for a particular employment, the employer could ask to see a genuine green card.

Naturally, you should use caution to ensure that this is a genuine employment offer before disclosing such personal information.

If you were successful in your naturalization interview and have imminent plans to travel, you must inform the USCIS officer right away since your green card will be taken away at the citizenship oath ceremony.

That means you will not have anything to show that you are legally allowed to re-enter the USA if you leave and did not get your US passport.

When you tell the USCIS officer they will make a notation so that your citizenship oath ceremony is set for after your travel dates.
