To support local detectives looking into the alleged multimillion-dollar scam at Kingston-based investment business Stocks and Securities Limited, the Government of Jamaica will pay foreign agencies (SSL).

The government is ready to show that Jamaica is serious about penalizing those who deceive investors, according to Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke.

According to Clarke, he has already sent a letter requesting forensic auditors from other countries to help solve the 13-year mystery.

“Handouts are not what we’re after. Clarke told the conference, “We are ready to pay with our own fiscal means.

According to Clarke, the local authorities asked knowledgeable individuals with case-specific technologies for assistance.

We just need your assistance in locating the type of worldwide forensic competence that we are aware exists; we are willing to pay for it, added Clarke.

Additionally, Clarke reaffirmed the government’s promise to conduct the probe with “no stone unturned.”

On Wednesday morning, he was addressing on the second day of the 18th Regional Jamaica Stock Exchange Investments and Capital Markets Conference 2023.

Due in large part to the fact that SSL’s most well-known client, Olympic hero Usain Bolt, is alleged to have lost US$12.8 million in the fiasco, more than one billion Jamaican dollars have vanished from the corporation.

He said that the situation that has developed over the past few days has given rise to possible chances that the administration would take advantage of to strengthen and improve Jamaica.

The first chance, according to the finance minister, is to show that Jamaica is serious about prosecuting fraudsters and punishing them, regardless of how big or tiny the culprits are.

According to Clarke, “the investigators will find the truth, and assets that have been acquired with the profits [of fraud] will be located, to the degree that they exist, along with the legal tools to start forfeiture procedures and win them.”

The investigation is being overseen by the Financial Investigations Division and the Fraud Squad of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
