Teen is sentenced to 15 years in prison following a “gun discovery”

Following an incident on February 8 near Dam Head, Steer Town, St. Ann, a 14-year-old boy was detained and charged with unlawfully possessing ammunition and other weapon parts.
According to reports from the St. Ann’s Bay Police, at around 12:30 p.m., officers on patrol in the neighborhood saw the accused placing something in his waistband.
He was approached, searched, and a sock carrying a magazine with nine 9mm cartridges was discovered on him.
He was then taken into custody and accused.
His court date is now being set.
A minimum punishment of 15 years in jail is mandated under Jamaica’s new Firearms Prohibition and Restriction Act for unlawful firearm ownership.
