In a shocking incident that occurred on Thursday, August 17, a taxi operator has been charged under the Sexual Offences Act by authorities from the St Mary Police Division. The incident, which took place in Rio Nuevo, St. Mary, has left the community in disbelief.
The accused, identified as 45-year-old Kevin Broomfield, also known as ‘Phoenix’ and a taxi operator hailing from Content, St Ann, is facing serious charges including rape, buggery, burglary, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
According to the available information, the distressing incident unfolded around 9:00 pm when Broomfield forcefully entered the victim’s apartment, triggering a physical altercation. During this horrifying encounter, the victim sustained multiple facial injuries that led to her losing consciousness.
Subsequently, she discovered that she had been sexually assaulted. In the wake of this traumatic event, the victim promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Broomfield’s arrest.
On a later date, Sunday, August 20, Kevin Broomfield was formally charged after an intensive question-and-answer session with law enforcement.
As this case unfolds, the community and concerned citizens are awaiting further developments. The accused’s upcoming court date is currently being finalized, promising a legal process that will seek justice for the victim.
