In a recent incident on Monday, July 17, a St Catherine man found himself facing serious charges after a shocking crime committed on Old Harbour Road, Spanish Town. Canute McKenzie, a 27-year-old construction worker residing in Aluminum Way, Mineral Heights, Clarendon, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. The charges include robbery with aggravation, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.



According to reports, the unfortunate event occurred around 9:45 am, when the victim parked his car at his workplace. During this moment, armed men arrived at the scene in a grey Nissan Tiida motor car and swiftly approached the man. Allegedly, McKenzie brandished a gun and forcefully robbed the man of his motor vehicle before making a quick escape.



The incident was reported to the police immediately, prompting a swift response from the law enforcement officers. Their rapid action led to the interception of the stolen motor car along the Bog Walk Bypass. During the attempted escape, McKenzie and his accomplices fled the scene on foot, but the police managed to apprehend him. As he ran, McKenzie dropped an object that was later retrieved – an Astra 9mm pistol, along with a magazine containing nine 9mm rounds of ammunition.




Following the successful identification of the suspect during an Identification Parade, Canute McKenzie was subsequently arrested and charged. As the legal proceedings unfold, his court date is currently being arranged to address the serious charges brought against him.
