Following a scuffle during a football game in Drax Hall, St. Ann, in 2010, a police corporal was convicted guilty on Tuesday of murder and reckless endangerment.

On February 3 in the St Ann Circuit Court, Corporal Alcourt Williams will receive a sentence from Justice Georgianna Fraser of the High Court.

On the sixth day of the trial, the jury reached a decision after less than an hour of deliberation.

The law enforcement official was placed on administrative leave from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) after being charged in connection with the incident, which resulted in the shooting of two individuals, one of whom died.

According to reports, Williams, who attended the match as a spectator, broke up a brawl involving many people.

He allegedly introduced himself as a police officer and told a man with a knife to put it down.

According to reports, the man allegedly failed to obey the officer’s instructions and moved closer to him. The officer reacted by dodging the man and firing his gun.

After being shot, the man and another person were helped to the hospital, where one of them passed away from his wounds while the other received treatment and was allowed to go.

Williams was charged after an investigation into the event.
