When a large fire destroyed a portion of the Musgrave Market and two other commercial buildings in Port Antonio, Portland, on Sunday morning, firefighters are still working to put it out.
According to preliminary reports, crews with three fire units reacted when they saw smoke pouring from the market at about 8:30 am.
A local grocery and a jewelry store suffered considerable damage as the wildfire soon spread to them.
When black smoke from the fire interrupted the beach resort, locals flocked to the site.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire around noon.
Several people have been affected by the fire, according to Port Antonio’s mayor, Paul Thompson, who was among the witnesses at the site.
According to Thompson, the people impacted by the fire “will require a lot of aid.”
Although it is still too early to estimate the damage’s cost, he said he anticipates it will be a sizable amount.
It has not yet been determined what started the fire.
