The CyberTips related to conversations between two users in May 2019 in which they discussed setting up sex with children abroad.
One member on the network, later identified as Kalmar, requested communication with a girl who was nine or ten years old and described having sex with a 13-year-old Dominican girl.
The US Attorney’s Office claimed that when the other person replied with a picture that looked to show a prepubescent female, Kalmar said, “Perfect, I want her.”
The office said, “They haggled costs and agreed on US$90 for nude images and US$250 for access to the child for five days.
According to reports, Kalmar offered an email account with the login dskalmar32 as well as a CashApp payment username that featured the word “kalmar”.
Kalmar said he sent the money and that he needed the pictures right away at the conclusion of the conversation.
“You take the cash and flee?” According to a report, Kalmar questioned the alleged “second user.”
While Kalmar’s IP was tracked to a home near Fayetteville, according to the US Attorney’s Office, “the IP address for the second user was traced to a woman in Jamaica.”
Law enforcement officials discovered a match between Kalmar’s driver’s license photo and a user profile photo on his Tagged account.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a search order at Kalmar’s residence on October 18, 2019, during which his cell phone was taken away.
The statement said that when the agents searched the device, they “discovered audio files in which Kalmar appeared to be discussing an impending trip to the Philippines for sex with a 15-year-old underage female and her companions.”
The FBI verified that Kalmar had bought tickets on those dates in order to go to the Philippines.
According to the press announcement, Kalmar “confessed to owning the Tagged account and talking with someone in Jamaica” during conversations with investigators.
He also verified that the CashApp account belonged to him, but claimed that the chat about setting up a sexual meeting with a juvenile was only imagination, it continued.
Kalmar’s computer and a number of mobile devices were forensically examined by the FBI, who discovered 21 photos of CSAM on one of the devices.
The detectives discovered 401 more photographs and 11 videos of CSAM on the computer.
Minors under the age of 12 were included in the files.
For his communications with the Jamaican on the social messaging app, Kalmar was later charged with two counts of receiving child pornography.
