Student from William Knibb receives 4 years and 10 months in prison for murdering a classmate

The male student who was accused of fatally stabbing his 16-year-old Kamal Hall schoolmate at William Knibb Memorial High School and who admitted guilt to the lesser charge of manslaughter last month was given a sentence of four years and 10 months in prison when he appeared in the St. James Circuit Court on Monday.

After the Trelawny Circuit Court’s term concluded last month, the case was moved to the St James Circuit Court.

Due to his juvenile status, the accused teen’s identity is being suppressed. He made an appearance in Trelawny Circuit Court on Thursday, December 1 for a sentence, which was postponed until Monday, December 3.

Justice Andrea Thomas, the sitting High Court judge, delivered the verdict.

The judge took the convict’s age and early guilty plea into account while deciding on the sentence.

On Monday, March 21 of this year, during lunch, two schoolboys are said to have gotten into a fight at the Trelawny-based school, purportedly over a “guard” ring.

Hall, a football player on the school’s daCosta Cup squad, suffered stab wounds due to the altercation, which turned into a brawl.

The injured student was taken right away to Falmouth Hospital, where he passed away while receiving care.

Later, the attacker was taken into custody and charged.

Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert, an attorney and Member of Parliament (MP) for South Trelawny, represented him in court.
