A shocking incident unfolded on Monday evening at the Halfway Tree Police Station, resulting in the tragic deaths of Detective Sergeant Kevin Mayne and a prisoner, Deon Singh, in a heart-wrenching murder-suicide.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Mayne, a dedicated officer assigned to the St. Andrew Central Area 4 Division, was escorting Deon Singh, a well-known businessman and reputed con man, to the station at approximately 6:00 pm. Singh, the owner of Singh’s Motors Limited on Hagley Park Road, was being taken into custody for ongoing legal issues.

In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, another officer who was assisting Sergeant Mayne was disarmed by Singh. The businessman then seized the weapon and fatally shot Sergeant Mayne multiple times in the upper body. Following this, Singh turned the gun on himself, resulting in instant death for both men.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face daily. Sergeant Mayne, who had a pending court case involving Dave Singh, was in the process of taking him back into custody when the unforeseen and fatal confrontation occurred.
