The University of the West Indies (UWI) student Matthew Hyde, 20, is expected to stay in police detention until at least May 3. He is suspected of abusing his ex-girlfriend over a period of days earlier this year in a room on the Mona Campus.

When Hyde came before Senior Parish Court Judge Paula Blake-Powell at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, she was ordered to remain in detention.

Two medical reports for the complainant in the case were received, the prosecutors told the judge.

On the next court day, the defense also said that it would provide a new medical assessment of Hyde.

The crown also revealed that committal packages are being prepared to join the defense team by at least the following court date in order to serve on the defense team.

the lawsuit was postponed until May 3 as a result.
Charges against Hyde include false imprisonment, malicious communication, assault causing bodily injury, and assault causing great bodily damage. These charges are related to an event that took place in Hyde’s room at George Alleyne Hall on the UWI campus in St. Andrew over a number of days.
According to reports, Hyde held his ex-girlfriend against her will in a room he occupied on campus from Monday, February 6 to Thursday, February 9, beating and burning her on various parts of her body.

Once the lady was finally saved, a police report was lodged, leading to Hyde’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Since then, he has been detained by the police, and his bail application has not yet been submitted.
