JUST IN: The Government of Jamaica has announced an increase in the minimum wage from $7000 for a 40-hour workweek to $9,000.

Labour and Social Security Minister, Karl Samuda, made the announcement moments ago.
The adjustments are to take effect on April 1.
According to Minister Samuda, for security guards, the minimum wage will be increased from $9,700 to $10,500 per 40 hour week.
