Inspectors continue test driving of automobiles at depots today

As of today, December 3, the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) will commence testing automobiles during the inspection procedure at all ITA examination depots.

The Island Traffic Authority put in place the preventive measure of forbidding inspectors from operating customers’ automobiles due to the coronavirus pandemic almost two years prior, namely in March 2020.

According to Kenute Hare, director of the ITA, authorization has been provided for the crucial procedure to be carried out at the depots throughout the process for issuing certificates of fitness when the nation resumes its pre-pandemic operations.

“This is critically necessary, as we are only able to uncover some critical concerns that may, perhaps, pose a threat to Jamaica’s road and vehicular safety operations through test driving the motor vehicle,” he said.

According to the ITA, test driving automobiles enables inspectors to check for specific problems, such as the efficiency of the braking system, and to see if vehicles continue to travel straight after applying the brakes.
