The Office of the Prime Minister stated today that the New Road Traffic Act would go into force in February 2023.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, “Cabinet yesterday gave definitive instructions as it relates to the implementation and the launch of the new Traffic Ticket Management System” following extensive discussions and consultations with various government agencies and departments regarding the implementation of the New Road Traffic Act in February of 2023.
The following has been determined by Cabinet in response to the strong public demand for the efficient execution of the Road Traffic Act 2018 and a transparent and responsible Traffic Ticket Management System:
  1. All citations and demerit points issued before February 1, 2018, will be declared null by legislation, preventing them from being transferred to the New Road Traffic Act.
  2. Demerit points will be eliminated with the introduction of the Act, provided that tickets accumulated after February 1, 2018, are paid by February 1, 2023.
According to the statement, there will be improved efficiency with a fully digitized procedure starting on February 1, 2023, thanks to the New Road Traffic Act and the new Traffic Ticket Management System.
“Cabinet also highlighted that over the last few years, the government has made tremendous efforts to lay the foundation for a cutting-edge traffic ticket management system and a solid infrastructure to enable the proper execution of the Road Traffic Act 2018 and its 2022 regulations.”
The release continued, “Cabinet acknowledges the concerns of law-abiding motorists who continue to follow traffic regulations, including well-meaning members of the public.”
Due to an increase in people wanting to pay off their outstanding tickets, the Corporate Area Traffic Court has added new sittings, including Saturday Court and Night Court.
