Drivers that travel through downtown Kingston should be aware that starting on Wednesday, a portion of Ocean Boulevard will be blocked to the general public to allow for preparations for the return of Fireworks on the Waterfront on December 31.

Therefore, it is essential that drivers carefully plan their trips.

On Wednesday, December 28, at 4 p.m., a closure will prevent people from turning left onto Ocean Boulevard from Nethersole Place or Church Street.

However, people will still have access to the Bank of Jamaica parking lot and delivery chute, the police stated in a release on Tuesday. “The area will remain cordoned off until after the event.”

Other traffic restrictions, according to the police, would go into force on Saturday, December 31 at noon.

At its intersections with Peter’s Lane and Ocean Boulevard, Port Royal Street will be shut down.

To facilitate easy access to specified parking places, certain sections of Port Royal Street will be made two-way. Which are:

intersections at Port Royal Street and Church Street,

Port Royal Street and Orange Street,

Port Royal Street and Princess Street,

and the intersection at Port Royal Street and West Street.

To make it simpler to reach the allocated parking lot, Tower Street will also be made two-way between its intersections with King Street and Church Street.

“Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch police officers will be in the area to keep an eye on the situation. As they attempt to reduce traffic and protect everyone’s safety, everyone should heed their directions, according to the police.
