Escapee hit with firearm charges after shooting at cops, fleeing the island

Police say they have now charged
an international fugitive who had reportedly shot at police and fled the island for two years but was later apprehended in September when he attempted to return to local shores.
The man identified as Akeem Thomas, 26,
of Payton Place, Kingston 7, was charged with shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition following an identification parade on October 10.
Police report that on March 23, 2020,
lawmen were on an operation when they approached a property where Thomas was staying in Kingston
It is reported that Thomas
and two other men opened fire at a group of offices and then fled the scene. Two high-powered weapons, a shotgun and an M16 rifle- were seized during the incident, the police reported.
Police said a search was launched
but they received information that Thomas went on the run and managed to leave the island.
He was however arrested on September 19, 2022,
at the Norman Manley International Airport after he attempted to return to local shores.
