Man shot by police during standoff in Manchester is under investigation

An inquiry has been opened by detectives from the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) into the incident in which a police officer shot and wounded a man during a rumored standoff in Manchester on Monday.

A video of the event, which depicts police officers approaching the man who was holding a stone, has been spreading on social media.

After a number of tense exchanges between the man and the police, shots were fired, and the man collapsed to the ground with what seemed to be a leg wound from a bullet.

The man was eventually transported to the hospital in the back of a police car.

Social media users’ reactions to the event have been diverse. Some have suggested that the use of force was appropriate.

Others have questioned if more strategies may have been employed to defuse the circumstance.

For instance, “Are there any alternative means that might have been used to get the situation under control if it was a case where the guy was suffering from mental disorders and he was just not in a position to grasp the command provided by the police to drop the stone?” One person inquired on social media

Others countered that even though the man was carrying a weapon that might have been used to harm any of their officers, the police should be applauded for taking additional precautions to save his life.
