The woman appears to be using the child as a shield to protect herself from her opponent’s blows. After tossing the baby onto the road, she quickly grabbed the child’s clothing with one hand and picked up an object with the other, throwing it at her adversary.
The two continued to engage in close-quarters combat, all while the young child remained
caught in the middle.
Onlookers in the video appeared to cheer on the combatants, while some made feeble attempts
to separate them. The disturbing nature of this video is deeply troubling, highlighting the blatant
abuse of the child.

Betty Ann Blaine, the Convenor of the child advocacy group Hear The Children’s Cry (HTCC), expressed her profound concern and shock while watching the video. Speaking from Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, she called for immediate action.
Blaine fervently hopes that the police and the Child Protection and Family Services Agency
(CPFSA) have already seen the video and taken steps to protect the child from harm.
“I hope that they have already intervened to remove the child from that mother.
This is abominable; I could barely watch it,” she emphasized.

Blaine insists that the mother must be held accountable for her actions but suggests
alternative forms of punishment, such as community service, to address the root causes of
abusive behaviour.
She also urges national parenting groups to engage with young parents on the importance
of positive parenting, as children learn from their environment.
Blaine raises concerns about the child’s well-being and medical attention and emphasizes
that society must not turn a blind eye to child abuse.
“The time has come for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to make a bold statement about
child abuse in Jamaica,” she declares.

Efforts to obtain comments from Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison and the
constabulary’s Corporate Communication unit were unsuccessful, leaving questions about the
incident’s location and the child’s injuries unanswered. The video serves as a disturbing
reminder of the urgency to combat child abuse and ensure the safety of all children.
