One Voice Association of Transport Investors and Operators’ hastily arranged demonstration against the government’s delay in granting a traffic ticket amnesty fizzled out on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the One Voice Association of Transport Investors and Operators urged taxi and bus drivers nationwide to stop operating for two days in order to put pressure on the government to act promptly.

However, the initiative did not receive the backing of other significant organizations that represent transport firms, which prevented it from gaining traction.

On Thursday afternoon, Oscar Finnikin, the communication director for One Voice, reported that 90% of taxi drivers were not working.

“Only 10% of operators [in some regions] choose to stay at home, and in some places, it can be argued that 100% of operators are employed. Therefore, the One Voice organization’s directive to stay at home was rejected by the members, according to Finnikin.

A few schools and businesses had to lock their doors two weeks ago as a result of bus and taxi drivers quitting their jobs.

At the time, private sector organizations had reported that the two-day demonstration had cost the nation about 50% of its output.

Ahead of the deadline for the adoption of a system that would subject persons with outstanding tickets to incarceration and the loss of their license on Thursday, transport companies have been calling for a traffic ticket amnesty.
